Skateboarding was the catalyst that sparked my journey into photography. Throughout high school, I spent countless hours skating and filming my friends. Eventually, this led me to buy my first film camera in 2021 to document not just skateboarding, but my life as well. Since then, it’s become one of my favorite subjects to capture. I’ve always been drawn to the fisheye flash aesthetic in skate photography, which perfectly encapsulates the culture I grew up in and am still deeply a part of.
Skateboarding has profoundly influenced my growth and shaped who I am today. As I’ve lost many friends to drugs and alcohol, photography has given me a purpose—to tell the stories of those who no longer can, whether they be friends or family. My goal is to capture and convey the essence of skateboarding, sharing the narrative it gives me as I continue to skate and document the culture that shaped me.
Recently, I was honored to receive the College Skateboarding Education Foundation’s Atiba Jefferson Scholarship. With this recognition, I’m motivated to keep pushing both my photography and my skateboarding.
